Our Funeral Directors

Darlene B. Smith

Darlene B. Smith

Owner Managing Director

Darlene has called Jacksonville "Home" since 1976 when her family moved from upstate New York. A 1982 graduate of Wolfson High School, she initially pursued a career in nursing, working  at Baptist Medical Center for over a decade. After experiencing a tragic loss in her own family, Darlene found a new passion and commitment to helping others through their grief. This inspired her to become a funeral director, where she could support and protect families during their most vulnerable moments. In 2000, she enrolled in the Funeral Service Program at Florida Community College of Jacksonville, becoming part of its first graduating class in 2002.

Since joining Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home & Cremation Centre in 2002, Darlene has served as Managing Director since 2006 and became the owner in the fall of 2024—a long-time dream. Darlene is a proud mother to five children—Melissa, Nikki, Cory, Lyndsey, and Logan—and a loving grandmother to Makayla, Madison, Hayden, Cameron, Marci, Jameson, and Julia.
