Zachary Mettler

Zachary Christopher Mettler, born March 2, 1987 in Austin, Texas, passed away at home on September 29, 2017.

Zach is survived by his parents, Joan and Paul Mettler, of Atlantic Beach, Florida; his sister, Lauren Lydic; and his beloved son, Elijah Mettler. Zach was preceded in death by Amanda J. Koronik: his best friend, the love of his life, and Elijah's mother.

Zach spent the majority of his life in Delaware, where he enthusiastically played lacrosse and football throughout his childhood and into high school—often with his dad as coach, referee, or, simply, biggest fan. After graduating from A. I. Dupont High School, Zach attended the University of Delaware. Everywhere he went, Zach relished spending time with new and old friends. He adored listening to music and almost always had his headphones within reach. He and his sister introduced each other to many different bands and artists. In recent years, when Zach became a vegan, he enjoyed cooking and being in the kitchen with his mom.

Since the early days of Amanda’s pregnancy with Elijah, Zach was eager to share his many passions and love of life with his son. Excited to continue the family tradition of playing lacrosse, Zach already presented Elijah with his first fiddlestick. An avid reader himself, Zach cherished story time with his son and delighted in Elijah’s discoveries with each new page. Zach wanted to give his son the brightest possible future.

Zach forever will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends. May he be surrounded with love, sustained in peace, and guarded always in the shelter of God

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a college fund for Elijah.
