William Dewey Wade Jr. (Bill) son of Sarah Wallis Wade and William Dewey Wade passed away in Atlantic Beach Saturday, June 17, 2017. He was born at St. Vincent's Hospital in Jacksonville, Fl. April 24, 1945. Bill graduated from Coronado High School in Coronado, California in 1963. He attended the University of Arizona at Tucson and graduated in 1967. Bill was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and maintained ties with his fraternity brothers throughout the years. Bill enlisted in the Navy and served for four years.
Bill was a partner with his father in Southeastern Golf Sales then worked at Prudential Bache Securities. He became an educator, earning two Masters Degrees. He was a teacher and counselor at Forrest High School until his retirement in 2010.
Bill was an avid fitness buff until sidelined by injuries. He was a familiar sight working out at the gym, riding his bike or running on the beach. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his longtime friend and companion Peggy Knight, his loving neighbors and the wonderful community of Atlantic Beach. He was a member of the Atlantic Beach Country Club.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, charm and intellect as well as his smile. He had a seemingly endless parade of stories about his colorful life. He was one of a kind, there will never be another one like him. He was a good son, brother and uncle.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother Sarah and father Dewey. He is survived by his sisters, Carol Wade Ferguson and Wallis Wade Brooks (Wayne), nieces Wendi Brooks Howard (Will) and Sarah Ferguson Wurlzelbacher (Michael), and their children Weston, Wyatt, Mae and Holly.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be held at the Atlantic Beach Country Club on Thursday, July 6th from 5:00-7:00 PM.
