With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, grandson, great grandson, cousin, nephew, and friend, Liam Mroz Mathews, who left us far too soon at the age of 15. Liam’s brief yet impactful journey ended on Friday, October 4, 2024, leaving an unfillable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
William (Liam) Ander Mroz Mathews was born on February 19th, 2009, to Mark Mathews and Melissa Mroz in Jacksonville. He attended St. Paul’s, Jacksonville Beach Elementary, Fletcher Middle School, and Fletcher High School. Liam made friends throughout each stage of his academic life.
Liam embraced life with passion and faith, developing a profound connection with God that was evident in his inclusive actions and old soul ways. His spiritual journey was not just a testament to his beliefs but also served as inspiration to those around him.
Second to his love of God, was Liam’s love for music. A devoted metal fan, Liam spent countless hours perfecting his drumming skills. It was common to find him ensconced in his music, lost in the beats or sharing the power of music with family and friends. He was happiest behind his drum set with his friends surrounding him as they held their band practice.
Liam was also an avid lacrosse player. While he wasn’t able to demonstrate his love for the game on the field recently, he continued to support the team constantly motivating his fellow players. Liam enjoyed the sportsmanship and dedication it took to be a member of the team creating a multitude of friendships.
Liam’s dedication to both his passions and the people around him showed a maturity beyond his years. He was always willing to share his faith with any soul who may need it and wanted to enjoy life to the fullest as he jammed on his drums or created a new recipe in the kitchen.
Liam’s departure leaves a profound silence, yet his memory will forever resonate among us. He is survived by his loving parents, Mark and Melissa, his siblings, Iaan, Kaia, and Kait, grandparents, Jack and Kathie Mroz, Andrea Mathews, Mark (Frances) Mathews Sr., great-grandmother Kathleen Mould, Aunt Julia Mroz, Uncle Jon Mroz, Aunt Melissa (Paul) Freelove, multiple cousins, and a circle of friends and extended family who cherished him. His memory will forever inspire all who knew him to love deeply, believe fervently, and live fully, just as Liam did.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 18 from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Quinn Shalz Funeral Home, 3600 3rd St. South, Jacksonville Beach.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, October 19th at First Christian Church of the Beaches, 2125 Ocean Front, Neptune Beach, FL.
