William Joseph Dempsey, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on December 3, 1938, in New York City, NY, William would go on to lead a life filled with commitment, humor, and unwavering love for his family and community.
A graduate of Monmouth College, class of 1965, William earned his bachelor's degree in political science, a testament to his love for learning and dedication to public service. After serving honorably in the Navy, he embarked on a distinguished career as Chief of Operations at Neiman Marcus in the jewelry industry, where his expertise as a certified gemologist was widely respected.
William was not only a phenomenal athlete but also an avid golfer, forging lasting friendships on the greens and inspiring those around him with his vigorous spirit and zest for life. He was committed to his Christian faith as a devout Catholic, finding strength and guidance in his beliefs throughout his journey.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, survived by his cherished spouse Eileen Dempsey, sons William (Beth) and Thomas Dempsey, and his brother Thomas (Jill) Dempsey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m., January 3, 2025 in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church located at 545 A1A North, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082.
A committal service with military honors will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Jacksonville National Cemetery, located at 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
William's warmth, humor, and consideration for others will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
