William Brannen

October 24, 1970 — December 30, 2017

William M. Brannen Jr., 47, passed away at home surrounded by his family on December 30, 2017, after a 4½ year battle with colon cancer. He was born in Orlando, Florida on October 24, 1970.

William is survived by Shelly Lyn Brannen, his wife of 21 years; son, William Brannen III; stepdaughter, Kairstin Hopkins; mother and father, Bill and Jan Brannen; sister-in-law, Melissa Jewell (Roger) and brother-in-law, Scott Hopkins; aunts and uncles, Joe Ann Jones, Lena Bessinger, Charles and Mary Keever, and Steven Keever; father-in-law, Stanley Hopkins and mother-in-law, Linda Helsel; and many loving cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Harold and Janice Keever and M.H. and Laura Brannen; stepson, Daniel Hopkins, and Uncles, Lloyd Jones and Charles Bessinger.

William received his B.S. Degree from Jacksonville University and his Masters Degree in Marketing and Management from The University of North Florida. He worked for the Bed Bath and Beyond Corporation and The TJX Corporation. An avid sports fan, he particularly loved the Florida Gators. He also loved going to the hunting camp with his dad and son.

Visitation will be at 12:00 p.m., Friday, January 5, 2018 in the Chapel of Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home, with the celebration service of his life at 1:00 p.m., with burial following in H. Warren Smith Cemetery, Jacksonville Beach, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society of the charity of your choice.

The family wishes to thank William’s best friends, “The Crew,” for their love and support during his illness.
