Wayne Willey

May 31, 1950 — August 26, 2017

Family and friends mourn the death of Wayne R. Willey, 67, who passed away Saturday, August 26th, 2017.  He was born May 31st, 1950 in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Belchertown, MA.

Wayne moved to Jacksonville in 1968 to attend college.  He soon fell in love with Neptune Beach and made it his home for the remainder of his life.  He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Kathy; daughter, Devon E. (Shaun) McKanna; sister, Darlene W. Sliwa; nieces, Darlene W. (Bjorn) Sliwa and Dr. Donielle F. (Morgan) Sliwa; and great niece, Abigail G. Markeson.  He was predeceased by his father, Harold W. Willey, and mother, Alice P. Willey.

Wayne graduated from Jacksonville University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Management with a focus in Physical Education; he earned his Master of Business Administration from Springfield College in 1974.  Wayne was a coach and taught Physical Education at Atlantic Beach Elementary and Sandalwood High School and then began a 26-year career with Delta Air Lines.  After his retirement from Delta Air Lines, Wayne kept busy by working a wide variety of part time jobs that gave him the opportunity to interact with people and stay active.  These jobs included valet attendant for The Plantation at Ponte Vedra, fan experience representative for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, and supervisor for S.A.F.E. Management.  He also enjoyed many outside activities such as biking, swimming, and yardwork.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 1st, 2017 at Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home.  A service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Stephen C. Britt officiating.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to your favorite charity.
