Walt Carroll passed peacefully on the 4th of July. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Shovlin Carroll.
Walt was a proud veteran of WWII, having served in the 8th Army Air Force ("the only Air Force") as a P51 fighter pilot. After the war he finished college at Fordham University and married Anita Marie Earle, "Neetie". Walt joined Denman & Davis Steel and rose to head of sales with his own style of selling himself and innovating steel fabrication.
Moving to Montvale, New Jersey with their three young sons, Paul, Dan and John, in 1956. Walt and Neetie immediately embraced their new town when Dr. Alexander made a house call on the raining unpaved Highland Road and the fire truck with Santa showed up for their three sick boys. Walt served on the Montvale Town council and planning board for 16 years and was proud of what they accomplished.
Continuing a life of service, upon retiring to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Walt was honored for having been the longest serving worker at the public library and an active member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
In 2005, Walt married Carol, with their marriage uniting two families who had grown-up together in Montvale, with many grandchildren and great grandchildren benefiting from knowing the fine gentleman they all know as "Gramps".
Walt is going to rest at Arlington. Family services to be arranged.
