Violet M. DeFreitas of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully at HarborChase Assisted Living at the age of 92 on December 9, 2018. Violet was born in Providence, Rhode Island to Amos and Leopoldina Pacheco on September 25, 1926. The family immigrated to her father’s birthplace in St. Michael, Portugal at the age of three where she grew up and married Gil DeFreitas. Soon after they were married, they immigrated to Harrison, NY where she enjoyed raising her children and enjoyed many generations of families and friends and was a devout member of St. Gregory the Great Church in Harrison, NY working in the rectory for many years.
In 2002 she moved to Jacksonville, FL. To enjoy her later years near family and became a member of the Blessed Trinity Church as well as spending countless hours at the Beaches Senior Center with friends, crafting and helping serve others in the kitchen.
She was predeceased by her husband Gil DeFreitas and son Frank DeFreitas. She is survived by her sons John, Gilbert and Robert DeFreitas; daughter Maria Bernadette Winningham; along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Blessed Trinity Church, 10472 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32246 on Thursday, December 13th at 11:00 a.m. An additional Mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Church in Harrison, NY on Saturday, December 15th at 10:00 a.m. Directly after the St. Gregory Mass, she will be interred at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Portchester, NY beside her husband.
