Victor and Agnes Donnelly

Victor Francis Donnelly, 89, originally of Newark NJ, passed peacefully at his home in Jacksonville, FL, February 16, 2017.

He was preceded in death by Agnes M. Donnelly, his best friend, beloved wife and high school sweetheart. They were loving parents to their children: Patricia, Michael, Jill and Robert. They are also survived by his brother, Thomas Donnelly; her sister, Eileen Hocko; eight grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Victor was a remarkable man, possessing a keen mind and a quick wit. A patriotic man, he enlisted in the Navy on his eighteenth birthday and proudly served his country. Vic was stationed on the USS Kearsarge during WWII. Upon leaving the Navy, Victor pursued a career in finance, married Aggie, and finally settled in New Fairfield, CT on Candlewood Isle to raise the Donnelly clan. He enjoyed financial matters, music, travel, and genealogy. Vic could be found on many Sundays, pen in hand, mastering the NY Times crossword puzzle while sitting poolside or down by Candlewood Lake. He was known for his dashing style and twinkling blue eyes. On Christmas Eves, always dressed in black tie,he could be found enjoying a glass of champagne with family and friends.

Agnes, also from Newark, NJ, was a cheerful and loving mother. She was known for her warm and loving hospitality, open to the myriad of friends who considered Camp Donnelly their second home and Aggie their bonus mom; one more was always welcome for dinner or for the night. She enjoyed the arts, decorating and entertaining. She loved a good laugh, her family, entertaining friends, our dogs and spending time at the Jersey shore with her sister.

They were a jovial couple, united in love, treasured by family and friends, loved and respected by all.

They will be deeply missed.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, February 19th at 5 p.m. at Riverside Avenue Christian Church, 2841 Riverside Avenue Jacksonville, FL with interment at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date
