Vernon Peter Brisson was welcomed into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Saturday, December 4, 2021. He died of natural causes in his home surrounded by his family.
Vernon was born October 11, 1929, in Fall River, MA to Clarence and Dorothy (Kirby) Brisson. He was the oldest of three children and was raised in the Bronx, New York. He is preceded in death by his parents; younger brother, Robert and son, William. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Edith (Fioretti); brother, Donald (Margaret); children, Mary Beth Hardy (Mark), Carolyn Locarno (Peter), Annemarie Brisson (Tom Geiger), Susan Harry (Scott), and Thomas Brisson (Genna Marx); fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was loved by one and all.
Vernon served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was stationed in San Diego, CA aboard the aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge. After serving, he attended Fordham University, graduating with a degree in Marketing.
Vernon and Edith were married on May 24, 1952. Together they created loving homes in many places across the country: San Diego, CA, the Bronx, White Plains, NY, Huntington Valley, PA, Stamford, CT, and Jacksonville, FL. As someone who never met a stranger, Vern quickly engaged with his communities.
He delivered Meals on Wheels, was an AARP 55 Alive driving instructor and served as an usher in his parish churches. Vern and Edith were active members of Woodway Country Club, Darien, CT and Jacksonville Golf and Country Club, Jacksonville, FL, where they made life-long friends and enjoyed many family celebrations. He loved telling people that he was an active member of the ROMEOS (Retired Old Men Eating Out).
Vern loved to travel. Whether it was a simple Sunday drive, a destination family reunion or a trip to some exotic location, Vern was always ready to go. He enjoyed playing golf and a friendly wager was always welcome. His good-natured coaching, “Keep your head down”, was lovingly repeated to many family members!
Vern’s career in sales started by selling home products door to door. With his integrity and love of people, he advanced professionally, working as a Vice President of Sales for Sony Corporation of America and General Manager at Sharp Electronics.
The family would like to thank his many caregivers and the staff at Fresenius Dialysis Center, Jax Beach, for their tender loving care.
