Ursula "Suzi" Miller

June 3, 1942 — December 25, 2024

Atlantic Beach, Florida

Ursula "Suzi" Miller, age 82, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2024, with family at her side. It was fitting she chose Christmas, as it was her favorite day of the year, to embark on her heavenly journey.

Those who were fortunate to cross paths with Suzi can take comfort in shared memories with a compassionate, generous, funny and determined soul. While Parkinson's robbed her of many things she remained ferociously independent and optimistic to the very end. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

Suzi was born in Evanston, Illinois, on June 3, 1942, to her mother Ursula and father, Gregory DeVine. Being called Suzi, rather than her legal name of Ursula, helped to distinguish her from her mother. She grew up in Crystal Lake, Illinois with her brothers Barry and Jon DeVine before moving to Lakewood, Ohio. After high school, she was off to Denver where she graduated in 1964 with a B.A. in Education and a minor in English from Loretto Heights College, the sister school to nearby Regis University. It was here she would meet her future husband of 49 years, Joe Miller. As the story goes, she was attending a dance at Joe's alma mater, Regis College. Not shy, Suzi asked him to dance as he was the tallest in the room at 6'7". After graduation, Suzi and Joe were married in Cleveland in 1965 and spent a short time in Grand Junction, Colorado where Suzi taught elementary school. When Joe was accepted into the C&O/B&O Management Program they moved to Maryland where they spent 23 years in Baltimore and Towson. It was in Baltimore, where Suzi and Joe would welcome the arrival of their cherished daughter--- Sudi. After a short stay in Richmond, Va., they moved to Jacksonville, Fl where they would enjoy a beautiful home together for almost 25 years at Jacksonville Golf and Country Club. She loved the visits from her grandchildren (Gust jr. and Katy) as well as her "northern" friends and relatives. After Joe's passing, Suzi packed up her treasures and moved to Fleet Landing in Atlantic Beach, Fl.

Never a person to be idle, Suzi played golf and tennis before embracing croquet. In addition to aqua aerobics, she loved her daily walks with her faithful canine companion, Yogi. She was an active volunteer in many organizations including the JGCC Women's Network, the Martha's Guild at St. Paul's Catholic Church, HabiJax, Fleet Landing Croquet Club and even as a Salvation Army Red Kettle Ringer just to name a few. She was always up for an adventure and managed to make it Vegas for her 80th birthday even with advanced Parkinson's.

Suzi was preceded in death by her parents Gregory and Ursula DeVine, her husband Joe and her brother Barry F. DeVine (Karen). She is survived by her daughter Susan "Sudi" Kouvaris (Gust) of Troy, Michigan; her pride and joy grandchildren Gust Jr. and Katy, and her brother Jon DeVine (Karen) of Cary Illinois; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m., Friday, February 28, 2025 in St. Paul's Catholic Church, in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, followed by a committal service at Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Suzi's life will continue to be celebrated from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Fleet Landing in the Johnson Hall located at 1 Fleet Landing Blvd, Atlantic Beach, FL 32233.
