Travis Curd, II

Travis Alvin Curd II, 72, of Atlantic Beach passed away April 2, 2017 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Travis was born to the late John Darrell Curd, Sr. and the late Edith Ferrier Young on July 8, 1944 in Weeksville, North Carolina. He grew up in states across the country, including California, Hawaii, and Virginia while his father served in the Marine Corps.

He graduated from Osbourn High School in Manassas, Virginia in 1962 and went on to attend Oklahoma University in Norman, Oklahoma where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi. He graduated with a degree in Mathematics from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1967. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. After attending The Basic School of the Marine Corps Schools in Quantico, Virginia, he was transferred to Vietnam where he participated in combat actions as a forward observer with the 1st Battalion 5th Marines.  During the 1968 TET Offensive, Lt. Curd participated in the Battle of Hue City and the Citadel. Upon his discharge, he moved to California and worked as a Real Estate Broker in Orange County until he retired.

He is survived by his son, Rob (Liz) Meyer of Burbank, California; brother John Darrell Curd Jr. of Springfield, Virginia, and sister Claudia (Bob) Evelyn Droste of Alton, Illinois; three grandchildren, Dillon, Cole, and Peyton, two nieces and four nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Community Presbyterian Church, 150 Sherry Drive, Atlantic Beach, at 2:00pm Saturday, April 8.
