Tonja E. Plomin

Tonja Plomin, 91, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, passed away March 24, 2024.  She was born June 2, 1932, in Chicago, IL, where she attended Harrison High School.  The second youngest of 7 children, she had 2 brothers and 4 sisters. She loved to dance and went to ballrooms every weekend with her sisters. She met her husband, Edward Plomin, while working at General Electric.  They were married in 1955 and had four wonderful children.  After raising them, she went back to work doing accounting for Sears, Appleton Electric, Lord Label, and Alfred Benesch, where she made many friends. Edward and Tonja were married for nearly 50 years. She was an animal lover and had many cats and dogs throughout her life, but her favorite was her dachshund, Stutzie, that lived 18 years. She moved to Florida with her youngest daughter and son-in-law in 2011 and enjoyed the beautiful weather in Ponte Vedra Beach.  Tonja was a strong woman who overcame many serious health challenges, but they did not stop her from living life to the fullest, often being nicknamed the Energizer Bunny.  Tonja loved to shop, and she will be remembered for her brightly colored outfits and matching shoes.  She was a loving mother, a faithful friend, and a great dancer.  She was adored by all that met her!

Tonja is survived by her children, Karen and Vance DuRivage of Chicago, IL, Kathi and James Paolello of Hilton Head Island, SC, Ricky and Mary Kay (Boin) of Chicago, IL, Cynthia and Randall Cleland of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; her loving grandchildren, John and Rachel Plomin, Rebecca and Daniel Von Moser, Ben Plomin; her precious great grandchildren Charlotte Plomin, Braiden, Rory, and Gavin Von Moser; many fond nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in Heaven by her husband, Edward Plomin; her parents, Stanley and Caroline (Felinski) Bala; her sisters and brothers, Vera, Francis and Stan Rapata, Bernard, John and Victoria (Szopa), Helen and Charles Janik, Louise and Ronald Wozniak.

Family and friends are invited to join us at 11:00 am on Friday, April 12 at Our Lady Star of the Sea for a Catholic Mass celebrating her life and legacy.  Wear bright, happy colors as Tonja would have wanted.
