Thomas F. McNerney passed away peacefully surrounded by his kids and his wife in the early morning hours on September 28, 2016. Tom was a native of Washington, DC and was predeceased by his first wife, Anne O., the mother of their five children; brothers, Arthur (Mary Jane) and Jack (Monica); and parents Louise (Ryan) and Arthur B. McNerney.
He is survived by his wife Ruth G. McNerney of Jacksonville, FL; children Thomas, Jr. of Newburyport, MA, Patrick (Angela) of Jacksonville, FL, Rita (Jim) Walsh of Ponce Inlet, FL, Mary Ellen (Stephen) Donovan of Galloway, NJ and Joan (Jim) Mooney of Absecon, NJ; six grandchildren Stephen and Ryan Donovan, Timothy and MaryKate McNerney, James and Michael Mooney; and one great grandchild Stephen Donovan III.
Tom was a US Army Veteran and an Attorney for the Federal Government. In 1978 he was appointed a Judge for the Social Security Administration and was assigned to the Jenkintown, PA office. In 1992 he retired to the good life in Jacksonville Beach, FL.
Tom will be remembered as a kind, loving and generous man who was true to his Catholic faith. His love for his family was unconditional. Helping others in need was always a priority. He loved to meet new people and was very sociable. He was, after all, an Irishman.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 2, 2016 in Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 3rd at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest in Washington, DC on a later date.
