BROWN Thomas James Brown, Jr. (92), of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL died February 18, 2016 surrounded by family. Tom was born October 15, 1923 in New York City to Thomas & Margaret (Donovan) Brown who predeceased him as did his sister Rita Murray. During World War II, Tom served as a photographer in the Army Air Force. He was stationed in England and while there attended Baliol College (Oxford University, England). Tom graduated from Iona College, New Rochelle, NY. Then he completed his education earning a Master's degree and a Doctorate from Columbia University. Tom worked for International Paper in NYC and Champion International Paper in Stamford, CT. After retirement, he was a career counselor at Fordham University in Tarrytown, NY. Tom was the business representative on the College Accreditation Committee for Business Schools. One of the first schools his Committee accredited was the University of North Florida. He was also served on the Board of Bishop Kenny High School. Tom was a member of Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, NY and Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra, FL. He loved to play golf as well as watching both golf and football on TV. Tom is survived by his wife, Helen of 62 years and three children: Stephen (Katie) Brown of New Orleans, LA; Meg (Bill) McCabe of Victor, MT; and Vicki Brown of Jacksonville, FL; as well as 3 grandchildren: Ashley McCabe, William McCabe & Isabella Rhodes. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Wed., Feb. 24th in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Interment will be held in the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
