Suzanne "Yaya" Elizabeth Foxwell

April 28, 1963 — June 12, 2022

Jacksonville

Suzanne "Yaya" Elizabeth Foxwell, 59, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away June 12th, 2022, while on a family trip to the Greek Isles.  After some medical complications following a fall, Suzy suffered a heart attack while in the care of doctors in Bari, Italy.

Suzy was born April 28, 1963, in Evanston, Illinois, to Jim and Grace Schaefer.  She was the second born and only daughter among their four children.  While attending Patricia Stevens College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Suzy met and fell in love with US Navy sailor, Richard Foxwell.  Throughout their 40 years together, Rich and Suzy lived in many different addresses and traveled to many places, but to Suzy, her family was always "home." She worked diligently at maintaining relationships with her in-laws, extended family, and military friends, no matter the miles or time between visits.

Suzy lived and worked in the service of others, as an employee, volunteer, or just as a friend.  She was an administrative assistant to many during her working years, most recently as the Assistant to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Jacksonville University, where she met many lifelong friends and students.  She devoted a lot of her time to supporting the community, as an active participant in her daughters' schools, church membership, and with the Kiwanis Club of Arlington.  Suzy wanted to make sure everyone was taken care of, had what they needed, and had someone to talk to.  She opened her heart and home to many of her daughters' friends, without judgment or question, providing a safe and loving environment until they could transition to their next big moment.  She was everyone's Yaya and she never met a stranger that did not become her friend.

Suzy will be meeting both of her parents, her brother Randy, and her granddaughter Zerena in Heaven.  Suzy will be missed on Earth by her husband Rich; brothers Beau (Michelle) Schaefer and Clay (Nicole) Schaefer; and her four daughters Amanda (Bradley) Hall, Bonnie (Sainey) Manjang, Carolyn, and Audrey.  She will be greatly missed by her favorite little people, her granddaughters Alexandria, Anastasia, Yasin, and Mina; her new grandson Tijan; and her nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service for Suzy will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 25th, 2022 at Neptune Baptist Church, 407 3rd Street, Neptune Beach, Florida 32266.  There will be a time for fun, food, and fellowship with everyone that loved Suzy held after the service.  It is by Suzy's request that guests bring happy memories and not wear black, as she wanted "only happy tears" while being remembered.

As Suzy lived her life in service and ministry, please consider picking up a service project for, volunteering with, or donating to the Kiwanis Club of Arlington, https://arlingtonkiwanis.org; or directly to the Aktion Club of North Florida School, https://www.northfloridaschool.org
