In Loving Memory of Susan Mason Schmachtenberger

September 7, 1944 - August 9, 2023

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Susan Mason Schmachtenberger on August 9, 2023. 

Susan was born on September 7, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana.  She united with Timothy Leiby Schmachtenberger in holy matrimony on November 9, 1963, embarking on a journey of eternal love and companionship.  Their union spanned 59 blessed years, a testament to the enduring bond and unwavering devotion they shared.  In their years together, Susan and Tim lived in Brownsville, Texas and Palm Beach, Florida before settling in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, in 1989.

Susan's life was marked by numerous achievements in roles that showcased her indomitable spirit and passion. She made her mark as an accomplished interior designer, graced the hospitality industry as a revered hotel owner, and brought her distinctive touch to the Ralph Lauren shop in Palm Beach.  Her influence and creativity transcended the professional realm.  She found solace and joy on the golf course, where she fostered cherished friendships and bonds that enriched the lives of those she loved as well as her own.  Among her many interests and sources of inspiration, Susan held a deep love for the beach, with a particular fondness for her times on Captiva Island.

Susan's tenacity and zest for life shone brightly, mirroring the love she radiated for her family and friends. Her legacy lives on through the memories she created and the lives she impacted.

Susan is survived by her loving husband, Timothy Leiby Schmachtenberger, Sr., whose heart she forever captured, by her devoted children, Timothy Leiby Schmachtenberger, Jr. and Christopher Herff Schmachtenberger, and by her beloved daughters-in-law, Lesli Anschutz Schmachtenberger and Michelle Lee Schmachtenberger.

Susan's life included the precious times shared with her cherished grandchildren: Lilly Jane Schmachtenberger, Lucy Michelle Schmachtenberger, Molly Elizabeth Schmachtenberger, and Chad Benjamin Schmachtenberger. Each one a vestige of her enduring love and nurturing spirit.

Along with her treasured family, Susan's warmth, grace, and wisdom touched the lives of her devoted friends whom she held so dear.  May she find eternal rest and peace in the embrace of the heavens, forever remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and an inspiration to us all.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday August 19th at Christ Church, 400 San Juan Drive, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida with a reception to follow.  In lieu of flowers, for those moved to honor Susan Mason Schmachtenberger’s life and legacy, donations may be made to Christ Church in her honor.
