Susan Ashworth

September 6, 1950 — December 14, 2017

Susan Y. Ashworth, 67 years young, loving and devoted Mother, Daughter, Sister, Wife, and “Mema”, completed her journey back to Christ on Thursday, December 14, 2017.  Her time on this Earth began on Wednesday, September 6, 1950, born to Raymond and Helen Yockey in Jacksonville, Florida.  She felt blessed to call Neptune Beach her home for the majority of her life.  She truly loved the beauty and serenity of the sand and the sea.

Susan proudly led an amazing career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. As an analyst her knowledge and intelligence were of great benefit.  She retired after 30 years of service and commitment, yet maintained many of the friendships she formed during her time there.  After retiring she devoted her time to her family and friends, especially her first and only granddaughter who was born the same year she retired. Susan loved to read from a young age and treasured books of all types.  She loved to walk along the beach and collect sea shells.  Most of all Susan loved to help others in any way she could, whether that be through a kind word or a kind gesture.  She even loved the obstacles in life, because “they only serve to make us stronger”, she said.  She truly gave all that she had and more to others.  Susan remained an active member of her church and many have shared that they would go to lift her spirits, and yet she was the one lifting theirs’ simply by being who she was.  Her generous and kind spirit has touched more people than will ever be known.

Susan is survived by her beloved daughter Emilie “Emmy” Kimble, her precious granddaughter Reagan, her dear sister, Virginia “Ginny” Byrd, and many other extended family members.  She is predeceased by her husband, Stephen, her two brothers, Steve and Ray Yockey, and her parents Raymond and Helen Yockey.

A memorial service will be held to honor her life at 11am, Saturday December 30th, at Oceanside Church of Christ, 1025 Snug Harbor Court, Atlantic Beach, Florida, 32233.
