Stanley William Cairns
Born July 16, 1930, in New York City and raised in New Rochelle N.Y. Attended New Rochelle High School, and The Taft School in Watertown, CT. Received a BSE in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University in 1952. He joined the sales department of Jefferson Chemical Co. - a subsidiary of American Cyanamid and Texas Oil Co.
In 1954, he joined the Navy and attended Officers Candidate School in Newport, RI. After receiving his commission in August 1954, he married Ruth (Pat) Thompson of Greenwich, CT., and they were moved to Pensacola, FL. where he was enrolled in the Navy Flight Training program. He received is wings in March 1956 and served in an All-Weather Attack squadron with one tour to the Mediterranean aboard the aircraft carrier USS Randolph. After completing his military commitment, he returned to Jefferson Chemical Co. in New York.
In 1961 he was recruited by the Chemical Division of General Mills and the family was moved to Houston, TX. Where he became the District Sales Manager. Subsequent moves were made to Kankakee, IL. as Sales Manager, and then to Minneapolis, MN. headquarters as Director of Sales and Marketing. In 1973 he was recruited by the Commercial Products Division of S.C. Johnson in Racine, WI. as it's General Manager. He worked for S.C. Johnson for 20 years in a number of international and domestic management positions until his retirement in 1993 where he was the Vice President for North American Operations.
After retirement, he and Pat moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. where they built a home at Sawgrass Country Club. He served on a number of Country Club committees and became Board President in 1998. Stan enjoyed both golf and tennis and world travel with Pat., as well as boating and fishing at their condo in Treasure Cay, Abaco, Bahamas. With the warmer Florida weather, they decided to sell their Bahamas condo and purchase one in the North Carolina mountains.
In 201O, they decided to move to Vicars Landing Continuing Care Retirement Community in Ponte Vedra. He lost Pat to Lung Cancer in 2013, but is survived by his three sons Charles (Johanna) of East Troy, WI, Stanley (Ann) of Wayne, PA, and Jeffrey (Kirsten) of Palatine, IL., and eight grandsons, Paul of Daytona Beach, FL., Ted of Racine, WI., Alex (Kelsey) of Indianapolis, IN, Nate of Indianapolis, IN, Tyler of Madison, WI., lan (Paulette) of Fort Smith, AR., Julian of Wayne, PA., Anthony of Palatine, IL. and one great granddaughter, Cecelia of Indianapolis, IN.
