Shirley was an avid Yankee fan and knew all the stats. Her favorite was Joltin Joe Dimaggio. She was a volunteer at Valley Hospital working in the gift shop and restaurant. After moving to Florida, she continued to volunteer at Bethesda Hospital in Boynton Beach as a gurney pusher. A Girl Scout leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Little League Mom all were part of Shirley’s accomplishments. Shirley was an expert finger shopper. She knew all the merchandise in all the stores. But her greatest shopping buzz was Sam Goodies. She would save on her food bills to buy record albums. Shirley had an enviable collection of classical, jazz and popular music.
One of Shirley’s greatest loves was to spend time at her grandmother’s cabin in Spearfish, South Dakota. She shared this experience with her children on their annual trek from New Jersey to South Dakota every summer. Shirley’s life was devoted to the love of her life and her children.
Shirley was known by her friends (The Dirty Dozen) as a contrarian. She could discuss any topic on both sides pro and con and usually won.
Shirley and her husband were great dancers. They could do a smooth fox trot around the entire dance floor. Their friends dubbed their trot as the South Dakota Stomp. The Dirty Dozen met in New York in the 40’s. They raised their families together in New Jersey and all retired together to the Delray area in Florida. Shirley is the last of their group.
