Sarah Kathryn Orr Scarborough passed away peacefully on February 11, 2017 at the Fleet Landing Health Center in Atlantic Beach, FL. She was 98.
Sarah was born in Chester County, SC and attended Columbia High School. She graduated from Coker College in Hartsfield, SC in 1940 with a degree in piano. An accomplished musician, Sarah was also an award-winning elementary school teacher for over 30 years and the wife of a career naval aviator.
Following her retirement as a teacher in Huntington, NY, Sarah, along with her husband, Bill, spent several years in Hilton Head, SC before moving to Fleet Landing in 1991. There, Sarah founded and led the first Sunday morning devotional services for residents of the Health Center. She and Bill were members of Palms Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville Beach.
Sarah was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 71 years, William E. Scarborough, and her brother, Burt Orr, Jr. She is survived by sons William E. Scarborough, Jr. and Michael Orr Scarborough; daughter Kathryn Scarborough Noyes; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held in Leeward Manor of Fleet Landing at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, with a graveside service to follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Columbia, South Carolina at 2pm, Thursday , Feb. 16, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Nancy House Piano Fund at Fleet Landing or Palms Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville Beach, FL.
