Sarah Hentosh

November 13, 1921 — April 7, 2018

Sarah Belle Self Hentosh, 96, passed away April 7, 2018.  She was born on November 13, 1921 in Rural Cumming, GA (Forsyth County) to James Marion Self and Nellie Puckett Self, both deceased.  Sarah grew up in Sandy Springs, GA and graduated from Northside High School.  She later went to work in the secretarial department at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.  While there she met her husband of 43 years, Michael Hentosh, Jr. Being in the Navy for 20 years, they lived up and down the East Coast before settling in Atlantic Beach, FL.

Sarah was a loving stay-at-home mom for many years becoming known for taking peanut butter cookies and oatmeal cookies to her daughters’ schools. She later worked in retail at Furchgott’s until it closed and then at Geisenhoff’s and Sears before she fully retired.  Sarah was an excellent seamstress and made many of our school dresses and even wedding dresses for two of us.  Later she got the quilting bug and made many quilts, making sure that everyone in the family had one of her quilts.  She also crocheted and many babies in the area were given one of her baby afghans.

Sarah is predeceased by her parents; brothers Herbert Self, Jimmy Self, and Johnny Self.  Sarah is survived by her brother Frank Self; daughters, Agnes Hentosh Sharkey, Jennifer Hentosh Kaiser (Jef), Marsha Hentosh Miller (Vincent); grandchildren, Michael Sharkey, Lara Sharkey Leinenweber (Robert), Trevin Kaiser, Galen Kaiser (Jenn), Sarah Miller; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Leinenweber, Olivia Belle Leinenweber, Alice Kaiser.  She loved being called “Granny and GG.”  Sarah also leaves many loving nieces, grand nieces and grand nephews.
