Sara Phillips

Sara Nell (January) Phillips, 83, of Jacksonville, FL passed away Friday, December 13, 2019 at the Hadlow Community Hospice following a short battle with cancer.

Sara Nell was born in Houston, TX on July 13, 1936.  She lived in Pearland, TX where she graduated from Pearland High School.  After she graduated, she moved to Belle Glade, FL and started working at the Bank of Pahokee (First Community Bank) and remained working there for 44 years.  Once she retired she decided she needed to do something and started working at the Chamber of Commerce for 14 years.  Along with working at the Chamber she volunteered with the Auxiliary at the Belle Glade Hospital.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belle Glade, Black Gold Jubilee and she was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.  Through her years in Belle Glade she was in many organizations and committees.  Sara Nell loved spending time with her family and being a grandmother.  She was always ready to go and loved living life to the fullest until the very end.

She is survived by her daughter Kimberly Underwood, son-in-law Michael Underwood (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL), granddaughters Morgan (Jacksonville, FL) and Kendall Underwood (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL).  She is also survived by two sisters-in- law Margie January (Salinas, CA) and Betty Lewis (Belle Glade, FL) and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her Husband E.T. “Pony” Phillips, brother James January, sisters-in law, Allene “Blondie” Mronzinski, Ella Vein Betzner, Addis Usher, and Ruby Phillips. Her brothers-in-law Hobert Phillips, Jack Phillips, Herbert Phillips, and Twiggs Phillips.

She will be laid to rest Saturday, January 4, 2020 in Belle Glade, Florida.  Services will at the First Baptist Church in Belle Glade, FL at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided for family at the First Baptist Church following the service.  Interment will follow for family members at the Port Mayaca Cemetery in a private ceremony.
