Sandra “Sandy” Lee Bodkin (née Giovannini), 69, passed away May 27, 2016, surrounded by loved ones after battling prolonged sickness. She was born January 27, 1947, in Detroit, MI, but lived over half of her life in Florida.
Sandy was a devoted Navy wife, a loving mother, a caring grandmother, and an amazing friend to so many. She was a classically trained cosmetologist. She enjoyed traveling – whether it was on a cruise ship or going coast to coast in an R.V. She truly appreciated all music, but especially bluegrass – she treasured and lived for it. She exceled and loved playing her upright bass and played with many country and bluegrass legends.
Sandy is survived by sons, Emil, Scott (Melisia), David Jr. and Travis (Sherry); daughters Diane and Kathy (Mark); 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, LT David E. Bodkin, Sr., USN (Ret).; her sons Duane and Larry.
A Memorial service will be held at Saint Andrews Lutheran Church by the Sea at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 10, 2016, in Jacksonville Beach, FL with an internment ceremony to be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Alliance for Lupus Research.
