Samuel Odom, known to family and friends as "Poppy," passed away on May 4, 2018, at the age of 76 years.
Poppy will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn and their sons Sam Jr., Matthew (Georjie) and Paul; seven grandchildren Elizabeth, Taylor, Charles, Hannah, Parker, Presley, and Luke. Poppy is also survived by his two eldest brothers Charles (Sandy), Daniel (Gloria), and niece Heather (Brandon) and their sons Ethan and Mason.
Poppy joined the Navy from his hometown of High Point, North Carolina. He served honorably for 14 years in the US Navy as a Submariner where he patrolled the oceans on the USS Alexander Hamilton and the USS Von Steuben as a 1st Class Petty Officer Fire Control Ballistic Missiles. As a civilian, he was a contract Systems Analyst for several Fortune 500 companies as well as large insurance companies. He later retired to spend time with his grandchildren in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
A Gathering will be held on Tuesday, May 8 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home: 3600 3rd St S, Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
A Military Burial Ceremony will be celebrated in memory of Poppy on Wednesday, May 9 from 12:30pm at Jacksonville National Cemetery: 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, Florida
