Ruth Martin

December 9, 1923 — June 9, 2018

Ruth Eleanor Kincart Martin passed away June 9, 2018. She was born on December 9, 1923 in Bloomfield, Iowa, the youngest of 3 children born to Ernest and Noma Kincart. She is predeceased by her sister, Evelyn Sandburg and her brother, Laverne, a World War II Veteran and Prisoner of War.

She grew up on the family farm and loved to tell the story of her milking 22 cows, maintaining an acre vegetable garden for the family meals, being taught by her sister, at age 4, to read and write, attending the one-room schoolhouse where her sister taught her and where her sister had her clean the outhouse as one of her chores there.

She graduated from high school when she was 15 and finished 2 years of Junior College by age 17.

She worked in Des Moines after graduating from Jr. College and proudly tells that she worked next to “Dutch"(Ronald)Reagan, whom she met and who was a sports announcer for WHO radio there at the time.

She then got hired by the FBI to work in Chicago and scour letters for possible spies.  She went on to work for a General in the Army/Air Force. While working there she met her husband Douglas L. Martin, who predeceased her on 10/14/2012. She had met him at a USO dance, where he asked her for “a whirl" which she then smiles to say lasted 68 happy years.

She and Doug moved to Jacksonville, Florida after the war ended and his getting out of the service. They raised their 3 children, Diane Livingston, Connie Mabry and Randy Martin, both in Florida and then also in San Mateo, California for 5 years then moved back to Jacksonville again where they spent the next 32 years owning and managing an RV park on Atlantic Blvd.

They lived in Hidden Hills Country Club on the 18th hole and eventually ended up at Pablo Towers, which they loved.

Ruth was a dedicated and devout member of her beloved First Church of Christ Scientist located in Jacksonville Beach where she was a Reader and worker in her church.

She loved to read, walk (if possible, on the beach), listen to music and especially loved to dance with her husband and later at Pablo Towers, anytime it was possible.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great- grandmother and a Universal mother to many of her children's friends and family.

Ruth always had a smile and a compliment for anyone who crossed her path. She was a true angel in human disguise who spread Love and Light to all lucky enough to know her or be in her presence.

She is survived by her 3 children, her only grandchild, Jason Mabry(Alyssa) and her 2 great-grandchildren, Cameron and Rylan, all who loved and adored her.

She passed gently and peacefully, and we can only believe that she is now dancing with her dear husband and all of her loved ones in the Divine Light.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm, Sunday, June 24, 2018 in the Chapel of Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home.
