Ruth Jackson Ashman, 90, a long-time resident of Suffern, NY and a recent resident of Ponte Vedra, FL passed away on May 20, 2023. Born in Brooklyn, NY on November 3, 1932, Ruth was the first-born child of William and Grace Jackson, nee McGovern.
She raised her family in Suffern with Ted, her husband of nearly 60 years. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Dominican College, Ruth worked as a medical/surgical nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern before leaving the hospital setting to instruct Nursing Skills at Rockland Community College, Suffern, NY.
While Ruth was known to all as a terrific cook, avid traveler, lover of painting and an amazing crochet talent, it was her titles as “Grandma” and “G.G.” that brought her the most joy in life.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Edmund (“Ted”), son Kevin Ashman and sister Grace Jackson. She is survived by daughter Diane Cotroneo, nee Ashman, son-in-law Frank Cotroneo, daughter Ruthann Osborn, nee Ashman, son-in-law Clarke Osborn, daughter-in-law Sara Ashman, nee Newhart, seven grandchildren, Sean Ashman, Amanda Ashman, Brian Cotroneo, Catherine Badertscher, nee Cotroneo, Steven Cotroneo, William Osborn and Kaylie Osborn, and six great-grandchildren, Finley Ashman, Piper Ashman, Everett Ashman, Abigail Cotroneo, Ella Cotroneo and Brynlee Ashman.
A private funeral mass will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea followed by internment service at Ascension Cemetery, Airmont, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Francis Housing Crisis Center (www.stfrancisshelter.org), or the Sloatsburg Food Pantry through Catholic Charities of Rockland (www.sloatsburgfoodpantry.org).
