Ronald J. Masters

Ron Masters, 88, of Atlantic Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2023, in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on November 6, 1934, in Saint Augustine, Ron embodied kindness, loyalty, and good humor and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Family was always Ron’s number one passion, and he is survived by his loving wife, Maureen, his son Ron, and his daughter Kristina. He was preceded in death by his father, Verot, and his mother, Virginia.

Ron attended St. Joseph's High School in Saint Augustine where he played basketball, baseball and football. He then went on to pursue higher education at the University of Florida College of Architecture where he was a member of the architecture honor society, Gargoyle; and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity in which he honed considerable card playing skills focusing on becoming a crack Bridge player. 

A platoon leader in the Florida National Guard Reserves, Ron demonstrated his dedication and commitment to his country.

Professionally, Ron had a long and successful career as an architect. He never tired of continual education in his field or of sharing his considerable expertise as he consulted well into his 80’s. His creative vision and attention to detail leave a lasting impact on the architectural landscape, both though his projects and the good-natured mentorship and inspiration he provided to younger architects and colleagues. 

Outside of his professional life, Ron's greatest joy came from spending time with his family. His family was his hobby; and he cherished every moment creating memories with his loved ones. 

Over the years, Ron attained local notoriety, in partnership with his incredibly talented wife Maureen, for the incredible transformation of their beautiful home to a wonderland of artistically designed and executed Christmas trees celebrated annually with a festive Christmas party.  Ron’s hospitality and welcoming nature ensured he leaves behind many good friends.

Ron Masters will be remembered for his kind heart, sense of humor, and unwavering loyalty. His legacy will live on through the wonderful memories he leaves behind for his family and friends.

A service to honor Ron's life will be held at Saint Paul's Catholic Church in Jacksonville Beach, Florida on Wednesday July 5, 2023 at 11:00 am; followed by interment at San Lorenzo Cemetery in Saint Augustine at 1 pm.
