Roberta Gibbs

Roberta (Bertie) Mae Gibbs (Smith) of Jacksonville Beach FL, formerly of Johnstown, NY, passed away suddenly on May 19, 2021 at the age of 61.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, twin, aunt, and friend.

Roberta was a dedicated caregiver serving our armed forces as an Army medic for 3 years before continuing to serve for the next 35 years as a registered nurse at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, NY, and later as an Operating Room Nurse at Baptist Medical Center Beach in Jacksonville Beach, FL.

She was preceded in death by her only daughter, Alyssa Kelley Hersey, and her parents Raymond and Naoma Smith.  Roberta is survived by 4 wonderful grandchildren: Ronnie "Trae" Long III, Angel Long, Dominic Hersey, Elizabeth Hersey, one great grandchild, Nevaeh Douglas, and one soon to be great grandchild Paxton Douglas.  She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters:  Raymond Smith (Marlene) of West Falls, NY, Patricia Almeter (Gary) of South Wales, NY, Ramona Schear (Blayne) of Cameron, NC, and James Smith (Carol) of Gloversville, NY, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Celebration of life services will be held at a time and date to be determined.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a veteran’s organization or your local animal shelter.
