Robert D. MacGilvray, 74, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and previously of West Islip, New York, passed away on August 25, 2024.
Bob was born in 1949 to Annette Jewett and James MacGilvray and grew up in Massapequa, New York. He married his wife Donna in May of 1971. After earning a Masters Degree in social work at Stony Brook University, he worked in the field for over 7 years before making a decided career change in 1980. He spent the next 25 years working at the New York Stock Exchange, where he forged many strong relationships and lifelong friends. Soon thereafter, he and Donna moved to West Islip, where they raised their two children and very much enjoyed being part of the community.
A lover of music and sports, and blessed with a great sense of humor, Bob often loved to watch a game or to go to a concert, but not as much as he enjoyed sharing a laugh with others. Dedicated to his family, and a fiercely loyal friend, Bob was most well-known for his generosity of spirit, sharing his time and resources with so many over the years.
In addition to his wife, Donna; Bob is survived by his son,Rob (Kim) MacGilvray; daughter, Cara (Paul) Cotoia; four grandchildren, Jack, Kate, Quinn and Reed; with whom shared a mutual adoration. He is also survived by his brothers, James and Thomas and their families; as well as extended family and countless friends.
