Robert William Hall Jr., 81, passed away Jan 9, 2012, at home in Jacksonville, Fla.
Born in Pawtucket, R.I., on Dec. 28, 1929, he moved to St. Augustine in the seventh grade, and along with his twin brother Ed, became very well known in their high school years for their athletic endeavors. They were known as "the twins," and were frequently in the sports pages of the St. Augustine Record for football, basketball, boxing and other sports. He started his career in the Army National Guard in St. Augustine after a stint in the Navy, and moved to Jacksonville in 1957. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1975.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Terri Bell, and his granddaughter, Rachel Bell, and is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Maria, and his children and stepchildren: Pamela Hall Jones, Robert Hall, III, Linda Griggs, Ronnie Griggs, Butch Griggs and Willie Griggs. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at St. Johns Catholic Church, 2400 Mayport Road. A private interment service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made at any Catholic Church, to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, which helps those less fortunate.
