Robert “Bob” Glenn Rennie at the age of 74 returned to his heavenly home on October 8, 2023. Although unconscious, family and friends were by his side to express their love and friendship before his passing.
Bob was born to Robert John Rennie and Helen Glennaire Rennie on May 25,1949 in Elmira, New York.
Survived by: Spouse, Nguyet “Kim” Rennie; Daughter, MyLan Smith (Tim); Sons: John, Jim (Nary), Jeff, Justin (Liz); seven Grandchildren; five Great-grandchildren and many grand-pets.
Bob filled his life with service to others – beginning his service in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1967-1972. One year into his service, he and the 110th Transportation Unit adopted a Catholic orphanage 30 miles north of Saigon. He collected religious articles and other items for the children, along with monetary donations he and his unit contributed from their pay every month.
After his service in Vietnam, Bob earned a degree from Elmira College with a concentration in Accounting.
He continued a life of service to his family, neighbors and his church, often helping those he just met or barely knew. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bob served in various volunteer positions. He served as a member of the bishopric, teacher, clerk, assistant, building clean-up organizer, transporting missionaries and as a service missionary himself. Additionally, he acted as a religious liaison to local military members and veterans in the Jacksonville area. His final act of service was caring for his health-challenged spouse – making certain she was safe, comfortable, and happy while always beside her through hours of doctor visits, medical appointments, and taking her to wherever she needed or wanted to go. Bob served diligently and quietly, never wanting attention or accolades.
With great appreciation, the family would like to thank the staff at Baptist Medical Center Beaches in Jacksonville Beach, Florida for taking such good care of Bob in his last couple of weeks.
The Spouse, Father, Grandfather, Uncle and Friend to all will be greatly missed.
