Robert Lewis Berner, 90, passed away peacefully June 8, 2018. He loved his God devotedly and will now be united with Him in Heaven. Second only to that love was love of family, and that love was returned in equal measure. Bob was born in Detroit, MI to the late Esther (nee Bayer) and Alfred Berner. He was preceded in death by his beloved second daughter, Diane Voelker; brother, Gerald; and son-in-law, Raymond Herwig. He is survived by his first wife, Jean of Seabrook Island, SC; his devoted wife Linda, of Jacksonville, FL; daughters, Gail (Raymond) Gill of Deep River, CT, Christy Herwig, of Port Deposit, MD, Janice Berner and son-in-law, James Billings of Ramseur, NC; and son-in-law George Voelker, of Charleston, SC; stepsons, Gary Vancini of Narragansett, RI, and Jeffrey (Laurie) Vancini, of Jacksonville, FL; 16 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Bob proudly served his country in the Army Air Force during WWII, followed by a career which included VP Director of Marketing for Commercial Credit in Baltimore, MD, VP of New Product Development for City Corp. in NYC, and CEO for Manufactured Housing in Winston-Salem, NC.
He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and most recently was employed at TPC Sawgrass as a Course Advisor/Starter. How he loved being the first out on the course in the morning, the first to leave tracks in the dew with his cart. Golfing and coin collecting were his passions.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2018 at Christ Episcopal Church of Ponte Vedra Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice & Palliative Care.
