Richard Packard Rorick died on January 19, 2024, after a short illness. He lived at Vicars Landing in Ponte Vedra, Florida for 10 years with his wife Marcia who predeceased him in 2021.
Dick was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1927 and spent his childhood in Perrysburg. He attended Canterbury School in New Milford, CT and then attended the University of Michigan, where he was a member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity and the third generation of his family to attend there. He graduated in 1950. He was in the US Air Force as a First Lieutenant during the Korean War.
Dick spent his business career with Owens Corning Fiberglas which at the time was one of the fastest growing companies in the U.S. He started out in sales, in Jacksonville, FL, then sales management followed by marketing. He won numerous awards while in sales and sales management. When in the Owens Corning office in New York City, Richard was the manager of Architectural Services, Business Development and National Accounts. He was also the manager of the New York City sales office.
In 1980, Dick met and married his beloved wife Marcia P. Rorick in Palm Beach, Florida. They had been married for 42 years. He took early retirement with Owens Corning Fiberglas so that they could enjoy travel, hunting, and fly fishing. He particularly enjoyed fishing at the Marshepaug Hunting and Fishing Club in Litchfield, CT. They were also members of the Litchfield Country Club where they played golf and paddle tennis for many years. Dick and Marcia traveled around the world with friends and visited many of them in the west.
They had residences in Litchfield, CT and Palm Beach, Florida for many years where Dick was involved in many organizations. He was on the board of the Palm Beach Civic Association, and a member of the Pundits, the Crocodiles, and the Baseball Authorities of Palm Beach. Dick was also a member of the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club for 67 years.
Dick is predeceased by his lovely wife Marcia. He is survived by his son Richard P. Rorick, Jr., and his wife Paulien, his daughter Gretchen Rorick Cervantes, her husband Vergel and two grandchildren Richard Rorick, Ill and Oliver Cervantes. He is also survived by his stepchildren Lyn Feldman, Leslie Lanahan, Kitty Hillman, and Mark Herrlinger, plus six step grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, Marvin, and Genevieve Baker Rorick, his brothers Marvin H. Rorick and Robert B. Rorick and his sister Sheila Rorick Book.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Vicars Landing Scholarship Fund. There will be a family memorial service at Christ Church Chapel in Ponte Vedra at a later date.
