Richard C. Carey was born January 28, 1918 to William and Rachel Carey in Pittsburgh, PA. He left this world peacefully on Saturday, February 4, 2017—one week after celebrating his 99th birthday surrounded by family and friends.
Richard served the US Army in World War II in the Fifth Armored Division. He returned to the States where he worked in hospitality at the William Penn Hotel and later the Hyatt Chatham Center. Richard had a quick wit and charm that endeared him to his customers and coworkers alike.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Angie Carey; his brother, William; sister, Stella; and grandson, Tommy. Surviving family include Dick (Denise), Barbara Manion (Tom), Patrick (Alison) and Tim (Galen); 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Richard moved to Jacksonville in 2003 and enjoyed residing in Pablo Towers in Jacksonville Beach. He embraced the warm climate, proximity to his family and many games of Bingo and Wii Bowling. He remained an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan. We will miss his smile, thoughtfulness and love of life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 13, 2017 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Jacksonville Beach. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made in Richard’s honor to Pablo Towers Auxiliary, 115 3rd St. S., Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.
