It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Randy P. Mickens, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, on January 4, 2025, at the age of 64. Randy was born on January 21, 1960, in Long Branch, New Jersey, to Walter and Viola Mickens. Randy’s vibrant spirit and zest for life touched everyone he met.
A proud graduate of Long Branch High School in 1978, Randy excelled in sports, showcasing his athleticism and determination. In high school, he led the football team to the state championship game. He furthered his education at Columbia University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history in 1982 while playing on the football team. Randy’s professional career was marked by his tenure at Proctor and Gamble, where he served as a Sales Executive and distinguished himself as a leader in the consumer goods industry.
Randy was known for his kindness, outgoing nature, and infectious sense of humor. He was a gentleman who never met a stranger, making friends wherever he went. His generous spirit extended to all, and he was a loyal friend to many, always ready to lend a helping hand. A true family man, Randy adored his sons, Randy Jr. and Ryan, and took immense pride in his grandchildren.
In addition to his professional and personal achievements, Randy had a passion for cooking, having attended culinary school. His cooking will be sorely missed, he was a master chef. An avid golfer, Randy also dedicated his time to coaching Pop Warner Football at the Beaches, and he could often be found volunteering monthly at the local soup kitchen, serving those in need.
Randy is survived by his adoring sons, Randy (Natasha) Mickens, Jr., and Ryan (Reham) Mickens; his sister, Doreen Raftery; his brother, Walter Mickens; Patty Mickens and Susan Mickens; his grandchildren, Marco and Maren; nephews, Joe (Kellie) Raftery, Mike Raftery, Danny Mickens and Ben Mickens; great nieces, Mikenna, Caileen, and Delaney, along with a host of friends and family who will remember him fondly.
Randy is predeceased by his loving parents Walter and Viola Mickens.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in Quinn Shalz Funeral Home with Reverend William Kelly presiding.
Randy P. Mickens will forever be cherished in our memories as a loving father, grandfather, devoted brother, uncle, and an inspiring friend. His legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering love will endure in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
