Patricia A. Shaar, 89, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, friend and teacher, passed away November 9, 2018. She was born May 20, 1929 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. She was predeceased by her parents Michael C. and Alice W. Shaar; sister Ruth Shaar Dickerson; and brothers, Frederick J., Richard A., Robert M., and M. Vincent Shaar. She is survived by her brother James Patrick Shaar; sister Alice Shaar Akel; along with numerous nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends.
Patricia was a longtime educator and administrator with the Duval County school system retiring in 1990. She lived many happy years as a resident of Neptune Beach. She was a proud graduate of the first coed class of FSU in 1951. She started her master’s degree program when UNF first opened in 1972 and graduated in the charter class commencement on June 1974.
She loved to travel, spend time on the beach, play golf, and coach her favorite Seminole teams on TV from her living room. In her beautiful long life, she was an inspiration to many students, and will always be remembered for her love of laughter and goodness to all of us who were fortunate enough to have had her in our lives.
Rosary and Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 14 from 2-4pm in the Chapel of Quinn-Shalz, 3600 Third St. S., Jacksonville Beach, FL. A Mass of Christian Burial with be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 15 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Jacksonville Beach. Celebrated by Rev. William Kelly and Rev. Michael Williams, followed by interment at Greenlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 224 5th St N, Jacksonville Beach, FL, 32250.
