Patricia “Pat” Clarke, 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Fleet Landing in Atlantic Beach, Florida, on February 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving children.
Pat was born on May 27, 1937, to Harrison B Roberts and Elizabeth (Waldmayer) Roberts in Boston, Massachusetts. She fondly recalled her early childhood living on a sailboat with her father, mother, and sister Susie, as they traveled the eastern seaboard. Later, her family settled in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She graduated from Atlantic City High School where she met and married John O. Spencer II, father of her three children Susan S Nelsen, John O Spencer III, and Patricia S Eakin.
Pat moved to Killington, Vermont where she owned and operated a ski lodge. It was there where she developed a love of cooking and being the consummate host of dinner parties. Leaving the cold weather of New England, Pat moved to Florida where she met and married Col. Robert (Bob) B Clarke in 2003. They shared many wonderful years together before Bob’s passing on July 14, 2016.
In her new life in Jacksonville, Pat embraced the warm weather, a love of gardening and golf with Bob. Pat was always an active crafter, whether it was making homemade Christmas ornaments, knitting or needlepoint. Pat found a passion for quilting later in life with many family and friends being recipients of her handiwork. Pat was also a passionate supporter of the arts throughout her life working and volunteering with the symphony and public television.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bob. She is survived by her three children, Susan S (Jon) Nelsen, John O. (Cheryl) Spencer III, and Patricia S (Eric) Eakin; her seven grandchildren, Jon Nelsen, Brian Spencer, Beth (Derrick) Kraus, Brenda Spencer, Brandon Spencer, Samuel Eakin, and Caroline Eakin and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will have a celebration of life, as per her wishes, this summer.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to Jacksonville Public Television or Jacksonville Symphony.
