OAKLEY Colonel Ned H. Oakley, beloved husband of Maryan Moore Oakley, passed away April 16, 2013. Born Nov. 3, 1917 in Washington, D.C. He attended Holy Trinity grade school and Western High School in Georgetown, D.C. and then went to the University of Maryland where he earned an M.S. in secondary Education. At the start of WW II he was called to serve in the infantry in the Pacific Theater. He served 43 months in Hawaii, the Phoenix Islands, Guadalcanal, New Guinea and the Philippines. Returning, as a Captain, to his home town, he remained active in the Army Reserves retiring as a Colonel. His civilian life was as a sales representative in office supplies and equipment. From this job he retired at age 52 and taught for 7 years in the Montgomery County, Maryland School System eventually retiring in 1977. Col. Oakley is survived by his wife of 71 years, Maryan Oakley; son, Gary Edward Oakley of MA; daughter, Donna Michel Oakley of MS; brother, A.
