Murrel Vivian (McKenzie) Homan

Murrel Vivian (McKenzie) Homan, 97, of Atlantic Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, surrounded by loved ones in her home.

Murrel was born on September 18, 1927, in Okeechobee, Florida to James A. and Carrie (Newell) McKenzie.

Murrel was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Wallace E. Homan (1991), herhusband of 54 months, Sam Eppes (2006); brothers, JD, Walter, Jack, Donald, and Duffy McKenzie; sisters, Marie (McKenzie) Elmore and Willie "Billie" (McKenzie) Yarbrough; two sons, Wallace E. "Butch" Homan, Jr. and Kenneth "Wayne" Homan; two grandchildren, John C. Homan and Crystal Thompson.

Murrel is survived by her children, Kathy Homan, Danny M. Homan, and Gayle H. Kennard (Towney); grandchildren, Christy Clark, Joey Homan, Lisa Macik (Jamie), Towney G. "Trey" Kennard, III (Heather), Ashley H. Byars (Tristan), McKenzie K. Price (Grant), Jessica H. Green, Timothy R. Kennard. She is also survived by several great grandchildren and great greart grandchildren.

While growing up in Florida, Murrel put her faith and trust in Jesus Christ at a young age and shared that faith with everyone she met as a founding member of Faith Baptist Church in North Jacksonville. She also met and married, Wallace in Florida while he was in the Navy and stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. They raised five children while traveling together wherever he was stationed during his 20 plus years in the Navy. Murrel developed a passion for plants, walking, and because she never wanted anyone to go hungry, she loved cooking.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of many she loved and those that loved her, whether family or friend.

The family will be hosting a Celebration of Murrel's Life on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 1:00 pm in Quinn Shalz Funeral Home locted at 3600 Third Street South, Jacksonville Beach, FL, 32250. Murrel's favorite color in her closet was blue, so we would like to ask everyone to wear something blue for this Celebration.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in  honor of Murrel to Alzheimer's  Association either online at alz.org or 225 N. Michigan Ave. Floor 17, Chicago, IL, 60601
