Michael D. Rogers, 67, of Jacksonville, FL, went home to the Lord on Wednesday June 1st 2016.  Surrounded by family, he passed comfortably, at Saint Vincent’s Medical Center Southside.

Michael was born in Greensburg, KY to Sylvester and Doris Rogers.  He was raised in Louisville, KY before making Jacksonville, FL his home in 1981.  He graduated from Louisville Male High School in 1967 and received his B.A. from the University of Louisville in 1977.  He married the love of his life, Patricia L. Rogers (Wright) February 3rd, 1968.

Upon graduating from high school Mike began his career with L&N Railroad (CSX Transportation) before being drafted into the Army.  He served as an SP5 of the 5th Special Forces Group Airborne for two years, spending 11 months in Vietnam.  After serving in the Army he resumed his career with the railroad and began his studies at the University of Louisville.  He retired from CSX Transportation in 2004 after thirty years.  He enjoyed playing golf, sports, reading, and watching the Jacksonville Jaguars play on Sundays.

Mike is survived by his spouse of 48 years, Patricia Rogers; his three daughters Michele Riddle and her husband Ryan; Angel Smith and her husband David; Susie Valentine and her husband Lou; seven grandchildren, Ansley, Ryan, Taylor, Hannah, Hailee, Penelope and Danica; two great grandchildren, Ava and Nolan; his mother Doris Rogers; his brother Ronnie Rogers and sisters Brenda Thomas, Linda Underwood, and Beverly Dawson; as well as several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday June 17th at Neptune Baptist Church 407 3rd Street, Neptune Beach, FL 32266, Pastor Tom Barry will be officiating.  Family will receive guests the hour prior to the services. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Jacksonville National Cemetery 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
