Melvin L. Young, 89, passed away May 8, 2018. He was born January 4, 1929 in New York, NY. He grew up in Astoria, NY and lived in Cold Spring Harbor, NY for 45 years before moving to the Jacksonville area in 2013.
Mel proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy at the conclusion of World War II. He then pursued a career in electronics. After a series of technical jobs at RCA, Sperry and Hewlett Packard, Mel co-founded Scientific Devices East. He enjoyed Bridge and travel with his wife Donna. He was an avid gardener and a member of the North American Rock Garden Society.
Mel is survived by his loving wife Donna, of 66 years; two sons, Stephen (Eileen), Christopher (Caroline); six grandchildren, Stephen, Melissa, Bryan (Rachel), Emily, Bradley (Allison), Hayden; and four great-grandchildren, Carson, Edward, Jude and Juliet.
A Graveside Service will be held today, Thursday, May 10th at 2:30 p.m. in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
