Maureen Russell

January 19, 1954 — June 28, 2024

Maureen Russell, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on June 28, 2024, in Jacksonville, FL. She was born on January 19, 1954, in New York, NY to John and Loretta Connelly.

Maureen graduated from New York Foundling Hospital and became a devoted Infant Care Technician whose love for children extended beyond her career. Her warmth and compassion shone through as she brought joy to many lives. Maureen's career was not just a job but a passion that she embraced wholeheartedly. She found delight in caring for infants and even brought "Tyrone," a toddler, home one weekend to spread joy within her own family. Her dedication to her profession was evident in the smiles she brought to those around her.

Throughout her life, Maureen's spirit of adventure served her well as she moved from her hometown in Paramus, NJ to Massachusetts and then on to many more destinations due to her husband Kevin's career. Despite the numerous relocations, Maureen always found ways to stay connected with her loved ones.

She loved Christmas and Little Christmas and having her family visit. She also loved to surprise the family by visiting unexpectedly. The reunions were filled with laughter and joy as she cherished every moment spent with family and friends. There were great St. Patrick’s Days together and some visits to New York City for the Parade.

Maureen had a vibrant personality that drew people towards her. Her beautiful smile illuminated every room she entered. She was known for being loving, caring, funny, outgoing, generous, and never hesitated to stand up for those she loved. Whether it was organizing neighborhood gatherings or enjoying chats over glasses of wine or Starbucks with her girlfriends and cousins, Maureen's presence radiated positivity.

In addition to her successful career and vibrant social life, Maureen took pride in raising her two sons, Sean and Brian. She nurtured them into independent and accomplished individuals despite the challenges of frequent relocations. As a homemaker and devoted wife to Kevin for 54 years, Maureen found joy in decorating their homes, hosting playdates for her sons, and entertaining guests with grace and warmth.

Maureen had a keen interest in homemaking, decorating, cooking, crafting, and hosting gatherings. She particularly enjoyed bunco parties with friends and long phone conversations with relatives. Her collection of teapots from around the world reflected her attention to detail and love for properly made tea.

After battling a long illness with courage and resilience, Maureen's suffering has come to an end. While we mourn her passing, we find solace in knowing that she is now at peace.

Maureen is survived by her loving husband, Kevin Russell; beloved sons, Sean Russell of Los Angeles, CA and Brian Russell of Myrtle Beach, SC; sister, Jane Sweeney of Washingtonville, NY; and by many godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends across the country. She is predeceased by her father, John Charles Connelly; mother, Loretta Connelly; and brother, John Terrance Connelly.
