OAKLEY Maryan Moore Oakley, beloved wife of Colonel Ned H. Oakley USAR, passed away February 16, 2016. Born Jan. 8, 1921 in San Antonio, TX. Mrs. Oakley was the daughter of Colonel Werner Moore and Isabel Connolly Moore. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a Master's degree in Elementary Education. During WWII Mrs. Oakley was a cryptographer for the Army Air Corps and worked for the Air Force Office of Intelligence at the Pentagon and later was on the staff a the White House. She spent twenty years teaching elementary public school students in Montgomery County, MD. In 1999 Mrs. Oakley received an award as the Beaches Senior Volunteer of the Year for her work at Cypress Village Retirement Center's Health Care Facility. Mrs. Oakley was predeceased in death by her husband of 71 years, Ned Oakley. She is survived by her son, Gary Edward Oakley of MA; daughter, Donna Michele Oakley of MS; sister, Hope Grunske of CT; brother-in-law, A. John Oakley (Mary T.) of MD; and many other relatives and friends. Services will be private. Services under the direction and care of Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home
