Mary Rita Jones, of Jacksonville Beach, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2018. Born Mary Rita Kinderdine on March 4, 1930 in Syracuse, New York. Her family moved to Atlantic Beach, Florida, and she graduated from Fletcher High School in 1948.
Mary loved to sing and dance. Early in her life, she was active in the USO. She was also the Ombudsman for the USS Koelsch and USS Yosemite while her husband, Alvin, served on the ships. She loved animals and taking care of stray cats. Mary was a loving, kind and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Kinderdine; mother, Teresa Kinderdine; brother, Russel Kinderdine; brother, Chester Kinderdine; and nephew, Rusty Kinderdine. She is survived by her husband, Alvin E. Jones; daughter, Teresa Bernheimer; son, Dennis Sisson; daughter, Margie Bier; daughter, Jean Furst; daughter, Joan Sisson; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Quinn-Shalz with Father William Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville National Cemetery at 1:30p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Community Hospice & Palliative Care or the Jacksonville Humane Society.
