With much love and deep sadness, we announce that Mark passed away peacefully on December 22, 2020, after a period of declining health.
Born in Johnstown, PA, Mark moved to Jacksonville Beach, FL, in his early youth and was a ’67 Fletcher High School graduate. He had talent and passion for the 12-string guitar, surfing, and literature, and was enrolled in college when a brain tumor at age 19 left him unable to continue with his dream of becoming a journalist.
After the surgery, he could say only one word—“Orange”—until in time he learned to talk and walk again with much help from his dear Aunt Rosie and Uncle Roland. He taught math at the local college for a stint, until he opened his own tobacco shop, to where he rode his three wheeler each day. He made the best out of everything. More than anything, he was friendly to everyone, and why he’ll be so missed and forever loved.
Mark was preceded in passing by his parents, Ruth and Bill Christ, brother Walter, sister Kay Canniff, and nephew Rick Canniff, and is survived by his long-time partner Peggy Harris, stepmother Jean Christ, brother-in-law Richard Canniff, nieces Marleen Canniff and Marci
Sprouse, and an extended loving family.
No one knows of a better human being.
Due to COVID-19, the place and time of service is yet to be determined.
