Marie D. Lychak, 84, formerly of Bethlehem, PA, died June 24, 2016, at her home at HarborChase in Jacksonville, FL. She was the wife of the late Dr. Edward Lychak and the daughter of the late Rose and Joseph F. Mizgerd.
She was a graduate and Salutatorian of Allentown Central Catholic HS in 1949 and Kutztown University in 1953. She was an art teacher in the Coatesville and Upper Darby, PA, school districts and a substitute teacher in the Bethlehem school district. In 1976 she was elected to the Board of Supervisors of Hanover Township in Bethlehem. In 1978 she assumed the Chairmanship of the Board, which she held until retiring in 1986.
She was a member of the Catasauqua Junior Woman’s Club, the Lehigh Valley Dental Auxiliary (serving as President for three years), and the Allentown chapter of the American Association of University Women, serving as President from 1974-1976.
She was a member of the Lehigh Valley Art Alliance, the Allentown Art Museum and the Palette Club, exhibiting artwork in Bethlehem. She also was a member of the International Society of Poets. She achieved duplicate bridge Life Master status in the American Contract Bridge League.
In 1987 she became a Real Estate Associate with Coldwell Banker Heritage Real Estate and retired in 1993.
Survivors: Daughter, Valerie Bollock Thomas and her husband D. Gray Thomas of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; son, Robert J. Lychak and his wife Hazel Lychak of Vienna, VA; granddaughter, Natalie Lychak; four grandsons, William Bollock, Brett Lychak, Colin Lychak and Daniel Lychak; sister, Catherine McGrath of Bloomfield, MI; and brother Dr. Joseph Mizgerd of Bonita Springs, FL. She was predeceased by a son, Edward M. Lychak.
A service will be held in Bethlehem, PA at a later date. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
