Maria Fischer, 82, passed away on February 19, 2021 at her residence. She was born on February 6, 1939 in Catano, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Antonia Bruno Soto and Eliezer de Jesus Nieves. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY and retired to Jacksonville in 1998.
Maria was a homemaker and later worked as a secretary for many years. She also enjoyed singing in her Church Choir in NY. She enjoyed watching movies and was a big boxing fan. She loved to cook especially for her family. She was happiest when she was surrounded by all her children and grandchildren. She loved to claim responsibility for creating such a big beautiful family.
Maria is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Fischer, daughter Maria Nichols, sister Virginia Bruno and brothers Paco & Manuel Bruno. She is survived by her daughter Kathryn (Adolfo) Latorre, sons Clifton (Sondra) and Anthony (Sonia) Nichols, stepchildren Donnie, Anthony & Lisa Fischer, 14 Grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, sisters Carmen Martinez & Rosa West and brother Rafael Bruno. She also leaves behind many family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Visitation will be Thursday February 25, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Quinn Shalz Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday February 26,2021 at 11:00am at St. Johns Catholic Church with Father Rafael Lavilla as Celebrant.
