Margie Watson Hawkins, 95, died peacefully in her sleep during the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 12, 2022, in her home at Harbor Chase Assisted Living Facility, Jacksonville, Florida, where she had been living since October of 2021. She is now in Heaven with her Lord, her husband, and all her family and friends she outlived.
Born in Dublin, Georgia, on September 25, 1926, to Samuel L. Watson Sr. and Nettie Mae Brown Watson, her family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, when she was a young child. She married Ernest O. Hawkins in 1942, and they shared over 68 years together until he died in 2011. She and her husband moved to Waycross, Georgia, in 1952. They returned to Jacksonville in 1988 and settled in Jacksonville Beach in 1989, both happy to be back home.
Margie was a wonderful Christian, a vibrant, trustworthy and honest lady, a true servant of God. She loved singing about Jesus and sang in church as a young teen with her family; on the radio with her brother during the war years; later in church choirs, a quartet with her husband and friends; then with her husband until he passed away. She enjoyed baking cakes, preparing meals, and helping others in their time of need. Margie also loved to have fun and laugh, travel, walk on the beach, and watch college football, especially the Georgia Bulldogs.
She is survived by her four children,11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Quinn- Shalz Family Funeral Home, 3600 Third Street South, Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
